The St Jude’s Vigilance Committee

The St Jude’s Vigilance Committee was formed following the brutal murder of Martha Tabram in the early hours of 7th August 1888. She was murdered in George Yard Buildings, Whitechapel.

The committee was made up of twelve men who were to watch certain streets, usually between 11pm and 1am. The honorary secretary was Thomas Hancock Nunn.

The committee met on a weekly basis.
