The murder was immediately linked to other murders of the Yorkshire Ripper. A description was obtained of a man seen talking to Jayne MacDonald shortly before the time of her death. The description had much in common with that of the man thought to be responsible for the subsequent attack on Maureen Long but enquiries to trace this person were unsuccessful.
