Annie Millwood

Annie Millwood was a widow brutally stabbed during an attack in Spitalfields on 25th February 1888.

Annie was a widow of Richard Millwood, a soldier.

After her attack Annie was admitted to the Whitechapel Workhouse Infirmary from 8 White’s Row, Spitalfields. Reports detail her injuries as "numerous stabs in the legs and lower part of the body".

Annie stated that she had been attacked by an unknown person with a "clasp knife which he took from his pocket".

Annie was eventually released to the South Grove Workhouse, Mile End Road.

Sadly, on 31st March, she suddenly collapsed and died.

An inquest was held before Coroner Baxter five days later. It attributed Annie’s death to ‘sudden effusion into the pericardium from the rupture of the left pulmonary artery through ulceration’. In other words, she died from natural causes.
